01 · The spec that decides your order
Two cups are sold as 8 oz, and they are not the same cup
This is the size where ordering by the ounce label goes wrong. One 8 oz sits on a Φ80 rim and holds 230 to 240ml. The other sits on a Φ90 rim and holds roughly 210 to 220ml. They take different lids and they pour different volumes, so confirm the rim before you price either one.
Φ80 8 oz
Takes Φ80mm- Holds
- 230 to 240ml (7.8 to 8.1 fl oz)
- Rim
- Φ80mm (3.15")
- Height
- 90mm (3.54")
Single, double and ripple wall
The standard 8 oz and the one that actually holds 8 oz. Its Φ80 lid is shared with the 6 oz, so a small-cup program runs a single lid across both sizes.
Φ90 8 oz
Takes Φ90mm- Holds
- 210 to 220ml (7.1 to 7.4 fl oz)
- Rim
- Φ90mm (3.54")
- Height
- 84mm (3.31")
Single and double wall
Wider and shorter (Φ58mm base), and it holds noticeably less: roughly 210 to 220ml against 230 to 240ml. What you buy is the lid economy, since Φ90 already covers 12 through 24 oz, so a mixed range runs one lid SKU fewer.
| Lid material | Styles | Temperature | What it is good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| PP | Flat sip-through, dome sipper | −10°C to 120°C | Best hand-feel and the strongest performance per dollar. Flexes instead of cracking. |
| PS | Flat sip-through | Hot drinks | The lowest-cost option. Rigid, so it cracks rather than flexes if a case is dropped. |
| rPET | Flat, dome | Cold and warm | Recyclable. Pairs with cold programs that already run a PET stream. |
| CPLA | Flat sip-through | Hot drinks to 100°C | Crystallized PLA, usually opaque. Industrially compostable. Not the same as clear PLA. |
| Paper | Flat | Hot drinks | The paper base still carries a barrier coating, so it is not a plastic-free lid. |
Lids are quoted separately from 10,000 pieces per size. Full range on the cup lids page.
02 · Pick the wall
8 oz cup dimensions across three builds
The three walls below are the Φ80 build. All three share that rim and its Φ80 lid. They differ in wall construction, which changes insulation, height and how many fit in a box.
Single wall
- Capacity
- 230 to 240ml (7.8 to 8.1 fl oz)
- Rim
- Φ80mm (3.15")
- Height
- 90mm (3.54")
- Pcs / box
- 1,000
Lightest and lowest cost. Pair with a sleeve for very hot drinks.
Double wall
- Capacity
- 230 to 240ml (7.8 to 8.1 fl oz)
- Rim
- Φ80mm (3.15")
- Height
- 90mm (3.54")
- Pcs / box
- 500
Built-in air gap, so no sleeve is needed. The second paper layer halves how many fit in a box.
Ripple wall
- Capacity
- 230 to 240ml (7.8 to 8.1 fl oz)
- Rim
- Φ80mm (3.15")
- Height
- 90mm (3.54")
- Pcs / box
- 500
Corrugated outer for grip and insulation. The most tactile of the three.
The Φ80 build measures Φ80mm (3.15") at the rim, 55mm (2.17") at the base and 90mm (3.54") tall. Single wall 8 oz ships 1,000 per box in a 410×330×485mm case at roughly 8kg gross. Double wall ships 500 per box in a 410×330×500mm case, and ripple wall also ships 500 per box. Dimensions are nominal and can vary by about 2mm.
03 · Pick the coating
Coating by serving temperature
The decision that fails loudest if you get it wrong, because it shows up as a soft cup halfway through service rather than on the spec sheet.
PE
Hot drinks to 95°C
The default hot-cup barrier and the lowest cost. Not compostable, and not recyclable in most paper streams.
PLA
Cold and warm to 45°C
Plant-based. Softens above 55°C, so it is not a hot-coffee coating. Use CPLA lids if the program is compostable end to end.
Aqueous
Hot drinks
A water-based dispersion instead of a plastic film. Specified microwave tolerant, since there is no plastic film to soften or delaminate — test report on request, per size. Runs about 15% over a like-for-like PE cup.
All three are screened against a 106-substance PFAS panel by independent labs. More detail in the coating comparison.

06 · Questions
Frequently asked
What lid fits an 8 oz paper cup? +
That depends on which 8 oz you have, which is why the ounce figure alone is not enough to order a lid. The Φ80 8 oz takes a Φ80mm lid. The Φ90 8 oz takes a Φ90mm lid. Measure the rim in millimeters, or ask which build you are quoted on, before you order lids.
Why are there two different 8 oz paper cups? +
The Φ90mm version exists so a mixed range can run fewer lid SKUs. Φ90 is the rim used from 12 oz up through 24 oz, so putting an 8 oz on that rim lets one lid cover the whole range instead of stocking a separate Φ80 lid for the smallest size. The trade-off is real: at Φ90 × Φ58 base × 84mm it holds roughly 210 to 220ml, against 230 to 240ml on the Φ80 build at 90mm tall. It is offered in single wall and double wall, not ripple.
Do double wall and single wall 8 oz cups take the same lid? +
Within the same rim, yes. The single wall, double wall and ripple wall 8 oz all sit on Φ80mm and take the same Φ80mm lid. The Φ90 8 oz is a different rim entirely and takes a Φ90mm lid, so it does not interchange with the Φ80 builds.
What is the minimum order for 8 oz paper cups? +
Custom printed paper cups start at 20,000 pieces per size. Aqueous-coated cups start at 30,000 per size, and a custom size outside the standard range starts at 50,000. Lids are quoted separately from 10,000 pieces per size. Free stock samples are available first, with the buyer covering shipping.
Can I get 8 oz cups printed with my logo? +
Yes. Flexographic printing runs up to 7 colors including a full wrap. Artwork comes back as a free digital proof before anything is converted, and a physical pre-production sample is recommended before a bulk run. Send artwork as AI, PDF, EPS or hi-res PNG at 300 DPI with fonts outlined.
