Paper Hot Cups

16 oz Paper Cups

The volume size in most coffee programs. A large latte, a filter coffee to go, or a hot soup service that borrows the cup rather than a bowl.

01 · The spec that decides your order

Which lid fits a 16 oz cup

The ounce label names the drink. The rim diameter in millimeters decides the lid. A 16 oz cup sits on a Φ90mm rim, so it takes a Φ90mm lid in any of the five materials below. Put the diameter on the purchase order, not just the size.

Scale cross sections of 16 oz single wall, double wall and ripple wall paper cups, all on a Phi90mm rim with the same lid
All three 16 oz builds drawn to scale. Different walls, different heights, one rim.
Lid material Styles Temperature What it is good for
PP Flat sip-through, dome sipper −10°C to 120°C Best hand-feel and the strongest performance per dollar. Flexes instead of cracking.
PS Flat sip-through Hot drinks The lowest-cost option. Rigid, so it cracks rather than flexes if a case is dropped.
rPET Flat, dome Cold and warm Recyclable. Pairs with cold programs that already run a PET stream.
CPLA Flat sip-through Hot drinks to 100°C Crystallized PLA, usually opaque. Industrially compostable. Not the same as clear PLA.
Paper Flat Hot drinks The paper base still carries a barrier coating, so it is not a plastic-free lid.

Lids are quoted separately from 10,000 pieces per size. Full range on the cup lids page.

02 · Pick the wall

16 oz cup dimensions across three builds

All three sit on the same Φ90mm rim and take the same lid. They differ in wall construction, which changes insulation, height and how many fit in a box.

All three builds measure Φ90mm (3.54") at the rim and 58mm (2.28") at the base. Single wall 16 oz ships 1,000 per box in a 460×365×535mm case at roughly 14kg gross. Double wall ships 500 per box in a 460×365×575mm case, and ripple wall also ships 500 per box. Dimensions are nominal and can vary by about 2mm.

03 · Pick the coating

Coating by serving temperature

The decision that fails loudest if you get it wrong, because it shows up as a soft cup halfway through service rather than on the spec sheet.

PE

Hot drinks to 95°C

The default hot-cup barrier and the lowest cost. Not compostable, and not recyclable in most paper streams.

PLA

Cold and warm to 45°C

Plant-based. Softens above 55°C, so it is not a hot-coffee coating. Use CPLA lids if the program is compostable end to end.

Aqueous

Hot drinks

A water-based dispersion instead of a plastic film. Specified microwave tolerant, since there is no plastic film to soften or delaminate — test report on request, per size. Runs about 15% over a like-for-like PE cup.

All three are screened against a 106-substance PFAS panel by independent labs. More detail in the coating comparison.

06 · Questions

Frequently asked

What lid fits a 16 oz paper cup? +

A 16 oz paper cup has a Φ90mm rim, so it takes a Φ90mm lid. The ounce figure on its own does not tell you the lid: order by rim diameter in millimeters. Every build of the 16 oz cup shares the same Φ90mm rim, so one lid covers single wall, double wall and ripple wall at this size.

What are the dimensions of a 16 oz paper cup? +

The single wall 16 oz cup measures Φ90mm (3.54") at the rim by 135mm (5.31") tall, tapering to 58mm (2.28") at the base, and holds 500ml (16.9 fl oz). Ripple wall matches it. Double wall runs 137mm (5.39") tall at the same Φ90mm (3.54") rim. All dimensions are nominal and can vary by about 2mm.

Do double wall and single wall 16 oz cups take the same lid? +

Yes. Both sit on a Φ90mm rim and take the same Φ90mm lid. The difference is on the outside: the double wall carries a second paper layer for insulation, which makes the cup wider overall but leaves the rim unchanged.

What is the minimum order for 16 oz paper cups? +

Custom printed paper cups start at 20,000 pieces per size. Aqueous-coated cups start at 30,000 per size, and a custom size outside the standard range starts at 50,000. Lids are quoted separately from 10,000 pieces per size. Free stock samples are available first, with the buyer covering shipping.

Can I get 16 oz cups printed with my logo? +

Yes. Flexographic printing runs up to 7 colors including a full wrap. Artwork comes back as a free digital proof before anything is converted, and a physical pre-production sample is recommended before a bulk run. Send artwork as AI, PDF, EPS or hi-res PNG at 300 DPI with fonts outlined.
