What is PLA and why does it matter for your brand?
PLA (polylactic acid) is a bioplastic synthesized from renewable plant starch — primarily corn or cassava — converted into lactic acid, then polymerized into a thermoplastic resin. The result is a food-grade material with 85–90% light transmission — high-clarity and suitable for cold drink presentation, with a slight natural warmth compared to conventional PET.
Under industrial composting conditions (58°C+, specific microbial environment), PLA physically disintegrates within 12 weeks and fully biodegrades (≥90% conversion to CO₂ + H₂O) within 3–6 months. The material standards behind it are EN 13432 and ASTM D6400 — the two most widely recognized for compostable packaging; compostability documentation for your specific order is available on request.

Industrially Compostable
